When we look at the different diet trends, we can see that they all restrict something.
Keto: restrict carbs
Paleo: restrict anything that does not come directly from the earth
Carnivore: restrict fruits and vegetables
Vegan: restricts all animal products
These different diets might have a time and a place for some people, but in the end all they do is restrict. Restriction is the foundation of dieting and all diet cultures. Is there a time and a place for being in a calorie deficit? Yes, but it is not maintainable for the long run and should not be done for long periods of time.
Studies have shown that restriction has a negative effect on the brain. Restricting something, especially food, leads to obsessive thoughts about food and eventually this obsession can lead to falling off your diet completely, and in worst case scenarios, even binges.
As soon as we “can’t” have something, we want it THAT much more. Our brains do not comprehend how to restrict something in a healthy way, so it inevitably leads to horrible thought patterns that enslave you to the thing/food that you restricted. You become a slave to the food that you restricted.
That’s a scary thought…but that is what diet culture is doing to us. It’s why you gain the weight back when the diet is over. It’s what constantly keeps you in that diet without ever getting to enjoy the life you want. It’s the same mentality that told you that you cannot have carbs, so you find yourself sneaking in tortillas/chips/breads when no one is looking (speaking from direct experience). Sound familiar?
If this sounds like you, you are not alone AND it’s not your fault. It’s not because you aren’t “strong enough” or don’t have “mental grit” to just keep going. None of that is true. You have been conditioned to think this way: that everyone else is just stronger or better or more mentally tough than you…but I am here to tell you that all of that is a LIE. We fall victim to diet culture and go through cycles of restriction and obsession.
The All or Nothing Mindset.
In my coaching, I do not count calories. I do not make you step on a scale. I show you how to stop this cycle forever, never diet again, and have a life of ADDITION, not restriction. When we add something in that we can look forward to, it gives our brains motivation to keep going. Adding in healthy habits that fit your life and your routine and your body is what will create sustainability, consistent habit change, and personal growth that actually lasts.
That is where I step in as a coach. I teach you how to portion your favorite foods, listen to your body’s natural hunger and satiation cues using methods backed by science, and never diet again.
If you are tired of restricting and ready to put in the GOOD work to add in healthy habits that will change your life forever, contact me for a FREE consultation. There is no need to suffer through life and stay enslaved to these thought patterns. You can choose freedom for this today!
